Reading an Alaska Native Corporation Annual Report
Submitted by rwk on Tue, 11/21/2006 - 4:39am.Each year the thirteen Alaska native regional corporations and over 200 village corporations distribute annual reports to their shareholders. The annual reports typically include a letter from the president of the corporation, current events within the corporation, and the financial statements of the year with corresponding notes. Regional corporation reports tend to be more extensive than the village reports but their overall setup is similar. Below are links to learn about several important statements found in all reports.

Introduction
Submitted by rwk on Wed, 11/22/2006 - 12:56pm.Greetings!,
Because I believe that Alaska Natives must use all the tools available to them to make progress in this world, I am developing ANCSA.net. My goal is to empower my native brethren by harnessing the new technologies of the Internet now available to us so we can empower each other.
This will give each of us a voice that the world can hear.
We can share our knowledge to inform our brothers, sisters, youth and our elders of our own economic, political, physical, mental, spiritual and cultural situations. We can develop a common understanding of our people’s problems and challenges. Then develop alternative solutions that each person, family and community may wish to consider as we solve our common problems.
Let us not complain; let us share solutions! Let us love and be of service to one another, remembering that “love is an honest interest in and care for another being, without any sticky strings attached” and “service is an act of helpful activity.”
Here are some of the subjects we plan to address:
- Alaska Native History and Cultural information
- The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971 [ANCSA]

I'll Be at AFN Friday
Submitted by rwk on Thu, 10/26/2006 - 7:07pm.I'll be down at AFN tomorrow,(Friday) wandering around.
Was hoping to have a new upgrade for the site done in the mean time but doesn't look like thats going to happen. Having a variety of issues but have made some progress fixed most of them, but there are a couple that just keep giving me problems. I'd rather have a working site that break somethings. Perhaps during this upcoming week I'll be able to figure out some of these things that are giving me difficulties.

Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA)
Submitted by rwk on Wed, 07/26/2006 - 7:11pm.Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA)
By Alexandra J. McClanahan
CIRI Historian
In 1971 the push for oil development, the state's desire to get the land promised to it under the Statehood Act and the Alaska Natives’ efforts to save their land paid off with what would become the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, known as ANCSA. For four long years spirited debate had focused on just how much land and cash the Alaska Natives would be granted for the settlement of their claims. The final bill that emerged promised 44 million acres and $1 billion in cash.
