Aaah porn and spam... the scourge of blogs and forums everywhere! Of course, the most secure way to prevent this sort of thing is to require the site admin to read and approve every single comment that anyone posts. If the board gets too large, this presents a large job. I've seen blogs with so much traffic that 2 or 3 or 4 people can't read every post and comment in a 24-hour period. Here's hoping your site ever gets that large and popular, eh? Another effective way to cut back on the spam is to require everyone who posts a comment to register and log in before posting. Most of the spam you're seeing is automated anyway... there isn't a human typing on the other end! Just by blocking anonymous posts, you'll cut back on probably 80% of the junk posted by "bots." Once the forum gets too popular, either with real readers or with spam-bots, you'll need to begin policing and moderating the registrations as well... but that's a whole other lesson in board management. I've had to close down several of my websites in the past because of this same problem. My most recent venture, www.CanCanCase.com has some variable levels of security in place that (so far) have only had 1 post (out of nearly 2000) that wasn't "real user content".... Oh, and be sure to delete those junky posts ASAP! Any spam that's allowed to stay (even for a day) is exactly what the spammers want... any displaying of their links is a success for them because it gets their sites listed in the search engines. Hope this helps some! -Case PS: ANCSA.net is a wonderful resource... both for Native Alaskans and Alaskan Natives. I was just trying (unsuccessfully) to explain the base concepts of ANCSA to a few tourists, and ended up surfing here to find the basic information I needed to explain the act to the uninformed. Thanks!
